We Do the Work Ourselves
Most general contractors are coordinators. They win the job, hand it to a rotating cast of subcontractors, and when something goes wrong the answer is that it was the sub's fault. We built this differently.
One Crew, Start to Finish
We self-perform the work rather than farming it out. The people framing your walls are the people who poured the slab and the people who will hang the doors — not four different companies who have never met.
Quality Control Is Not Outsourced
When we do the work, we own the result. There is nobody to point a finger at and no gap between what was promised and who actually showed up. That is the whole reason we keep it in house.
Our Schedule, Not Theirs
Most construction delays are somebody else's calendar. Controlling our own trades means we control the sequence — and when something shifts, you hear it from us instead of finding out on site.
Why Investors Keep Calling
Built Around Repeat Business
Most of our work comes from real estate investors, and that is not an accident. Investors build more than once. When you know a client may bring you their next four properties, you have every reason to be straight with them about scope, cost, and what a lot can actually support — because the relationship is worth more than any single job.
That said, we treat a one-time homeowner exactly the same as a client with a dozen units in the pipeline. You never know when someone's next project is coming, or who they will tell about this one.
And we try to make it a decent experience along the way. Construction has a reputation for being a headache. It does not have to be. Clear scopes, straight answers, and progress you can actually see go a long way toward making the process something other than stressful.

Know What Your ADU Will Cost Before You Call Anyone
Seven quick questions — ADU type, size, finish level, your lot, timeline, budget — and you get a real Sacramento-market cost range in about two minutes. No sales call required to see the number.
It is a ballpark built on what we actually charge to build these, not a lead-bait figure designed to get you on the phone. If the range does not work for your project, you have saved yourself a conversation.
- 1ADU type — detached, attached, or garage conversion
- 2Approximate square footage
- 3Finish level — standard, premium, or luxury
- 4Lot conditions and utility distance
- 5Your timeline
- 6Budget range you are working within

747 SF ADU, Excavation to Stucco
A 2-bed / 1-bath detached ADU in Sacramento, built on a City pre-approved plan to shorten the permitting runway. All-electric: rooftop solar, heat pump water heater, ductless mini-split, and electrical roughed in battery-ready.
We photograph our jobs at every stage, so you can see how the work actually goes together instead of only the finished shot.

Firefighter Discipline. Family Craftsmanship. Investor Math.
Hunter Winn spent years as a firefighter/paramedic before founding Folsom City Carpentry — a career that taught him composure under pressure and a simple rule: you don't cut corners when people are trusting you with their biggest asset.
He's also a second-generation builder. His father has held a contractor's license for more than 40 years, and Hunter grew up on job sites before he could drive. That combination — emergency-service discipline plus a lifetime around construction — is the foundation of how this company runs.
Folsom City Carpentry operates out of its own warehouse facility and purchases materials strategically in bulk, which keeps project costs down without cutting into quality — a real advantage for investors who need the numbers to work.

Founder & Licensed Contractor
Meet Hunter Winn
I was born and raised in Sacramento, and construction has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My dad has been a licensed contractor for over 40 years. Some of my earliest memories are job sites, lumber yards, and long summer days working beside him.
After high school, I chased a dream of becoming a firefighter. I completed Fire Academy in 2013, moved across the country to work as a firehouse intern in Baltimore, and later served four years with CAL FIRE. I invested nearly everything I had into becoming a paramedic and eventually worked as a firefighter/paramedic in Northern California.
That career taught me discipline, composure under pressure, and something even more important — when people trust you, the stakes are high. You don't cut corners. You don't make excuses. You show up prepared.
After the pandemic, I felt called to build something of my own. I started Folsom City Carpentry not just to run projects, but to build a company that does things the right way. A company investors and homeowners can rely on. A company that thinks long-term.
Our Focus
We specialize in ADUs, investor renovations, and value-driven construction. We work primarily with real estate investors because we share the same mindset: time matters, efficiency matters, ROI matters.
Our Approach
We operate out of our own warehouse facility, purchase materials strategically in bulk, and focus on durability over shortcuts. I reinvest heavily into infrastructure because I'm not building this for a quick win — I'm building it to last.
Our Promise
Straightforward communication, disciplined execution, and a standard I don't compromise on: Finished. Inspected. Ready for occupancy.
Family & Legacy
At home, I'm a husband and a father. My wife Brandy has supported me through every stage of this journey. Our son Hudson reminds me daily why I care so much about legacy. Everything I build — personally and professionally — is about setting an example and creating something sustainable.
I still build custom redwood burl tables when I get the chance. Craftsmanship matters to me. Details matter. Reputation matters.

What Our Clients Say
Verified reviews from our Google Business Profile.
We hired Folsom City Carpentry to build an ADU on our property in El Dorado Hills, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Hunter was professional, responsive, and easy to work with from start to finish. He explained the process clearly, stayed on schedule, and handled the project the right way with permits and inspections. The workmanship is solid and the attention to detail really shows. The job site was kept clean and organized, and communication was consistent throughout the build.
Hunter built a detached garage for us and handled the permits and inspections. He explained everything clearly so we understood why certain structural elements were needed. There were a couple material delays, but the end result feels sturdy and professionally done.
Our staircase and deck needed a rebuild and Hunter walked us through what needed reinforcement for safety. The project ran a little longer than expected, but the finished structure feels strong and secure.
Hunter installed a metal pergola in our backyard. There was a short delay waiting on materials, but once it started the work moved quickly. It looks clean and feels very solid.
